This poll surveys over 2,600 university students from 25 state and 4 private universities located in 16 cities in Turkey to find out their opinion on military service. The survey findings highlighted four main findings: (1) 98.6% of university students have not yet fulfilled their military service duties; (2) 45% of the surveyed university students support the view that current military conscription system should be continued and 40.4% of the students think that mandatory military service system should be replaced by a professional army; (3) 48.1% of the students favor partially exempted paid-for military service whereas 41.3% of the surveyed oppose it; (4) 53.7% of the students feel negatively about military personnel publicly expressing their opinions on political matters and 28.7% feel positively about it.
The survey is conducted by face-to-face interviews between April 1 and 15, 2010.
